Christmas Reflection 2024 – a selection of interventions, speeches, articles, reports: that was the year that was….
A Ukrainian Christmas Carol sung during a celebration of the work of the Museum of Totalitarian History with its work on the Holodomor; Stalin’s tyranny; and Mao’s Cultural Revolution. A privilege to meet Jung Chang author of Wild Swans.https://historyoftotalitarianism.com/
In my last speech in Parliament for 2024 I referred to the persecution and suffering of the people of China: I spoke about the continued imprisonment of Jimmy Lai, the jailing of the Christian citizen journalist, Zhang Zhan, the destruction of Buddhist monasteries in Tibet, the forced organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners, the genocide of Uyghur Muslims – and the continued denial of fundamental freedom to millions of Chinese people.
In Parliament with Sebastien Lai
And what I had to say about the use of slave labour in Xinjiang – and the purchase of millions of solar panels made by Uyghur slave labour.

Continuing atrocities in Burma by the military junta
My speech about the continued atrocities committed by the Iranian dictatorship:
Afghanistan: chaired an inquiry into the plight of Hazaras and supported call for gender apartheid
The Victims of the Yazidi Genocide
A speech I made marking the 150th birth of Winston Churchill at a conference of the Otto von Hapsburg Foundation

My speech on foetal sentience – the pain that can be experienced by the child in the womb

My GIS Essay on Mental Health: See Others at https://www.gisreportsonline.com/e/alton-david/
The scale of persecution for reasons of religion or belief: My speech at the Ministerial Conference in Prague (2023). Among those I referenced was Zhang Zhan, a young Christian lawyer/citizen journalist imprisoned by the Chinese Communist Party for seeking the truth about the origins of Covid. Believed to have been released but under continued detention. Leah Sharibu abducted, aged 14, by Nigerian Jihadists in 2018, and still in captivity in 2024.
And in 2024 with North Korea now providing soldiers and vast quantities of munitions for Putin’s war in Ukraine, this is what I said in Parliament exactly one year ago about the world’s most oppressive state:
I chaired an Inquiry into the denial of human rights in Nicaragua
And I chaired an Inquiry into the plight of brick kiln workers from the minority community in Pakistan.
