With thanks to Professor Jan Nysen for disseminating information about the European Parliament Resolution of 6 October 2022 on the recent humanitarian and human rights situation in Tigray, Ethiopia, notably that of children was adopted by 618 votes in favour, 4 against and 58 abstentions.
The resolution is elaborated in the greatest detail, and thanks are due to the fifty-two MEPs who took the initiative and shouldered this resolution.

Among other provisions, the resolution
1)) calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities and ceasefire in Tigray and the neighbouring regions without preconditions;
6)) condemns the Eritrean forces’ invasion of Tigray and the war crimes and human rights violations by Eritrean forces;
9)) calls on the Ethiopian federal governmentand Tigrayan regional government to ensure accountability for perpetrators of war crimes committed during the ongoing conflict;
21)) calls on Ethiopia to sign and ratify the Rome Statute of the ICC; stresses the need for an independent and impartial mechanism to address ongoing violations and accountability;
25)) calls for the EU and its Member States to adopt sanctions against perpetrators;
27)) supports the Commission’s postponement of budget support disbursements to the Ethiopian government since December 2020;
28)) regrets the fact that the UN Security Council has failed to address the situation in Ethiopia and the region; urges the EU and its member states to call on the UNSC to take meaningful and decisive action to ensure unhindered humanitarian access, allow the protection of civilians, end and condemn grave violations and ensure accountability for atrocities;
29)) calls on the UNHRC to renew the mandateof the International Commission of
Human Rights Experts on Ethiopia(ICHREE); and to provide it with time and resources, to carry out its mandate without limiting its temporal or geographic scope.
